I grew up in Hong Kong. Visually it's a fascinating place, so has certainly inspired me and influenced my work.

I have travelled a fair bit and have lived in Hong Kong, Scotland, the US and currently England. Moving around has been a positive influence. Being exposed to different landscapes and the forms that make up a city or place feeds into my work and the worlds that I create.

I try not to look back too much, but am often exploring similar themes to those I visited in my earlier works. With my printmaking I'm often trying to find new ways to express an idea, though different mark making and exploring new colours and textures.

I first tried screen printing during my degree at Edinburgh and fell in love with the medium. I like having the control of composing and planning the image first, and then bringing it to life through carefully mixing up colours and the satisfaction of printing ink to paper.

People and their surroundings are often central to my work. I try to convey a feeling - a sense of calm, places where you can engage or have a private dialogue with your environment.

I recently started to experiment a bit more with my printmaking technique to incorporate gradients, different colour opacities and creating ink-like effects.

Yes, I always hoped to be an illustrator and printmaker and earn my living this way!

A lot of the work that I am commissioned to do for editorial and publishing pieces is based on my personal work, so I think that has led me to get lots of commissioned work in the areas of mental health and wellbeing. I hope to continue this but also to keep experimenting with my print work.

Art influences are Jack Hastings - my Grandpa, who was a painter. Egon Shiele for his quality of line. Grayson Perry - his drawings, and ceramics. I love the work of illustrator Laura Carlin - her observation, freedom of mark making. I'm also inspired by poetry, music and travel, lyrics and landscapes.

The speed I work at - I am slow! I'm always trying to speed up my process. I bought a Wacom Cintiq a few years ago and this has helped in this regard. Also working without an agent has it's challenges, keeping in touch with clients and marketing my work to keep commissions coming in. I have two daughters, so it's a challenge to get a good balance with work and motherhood - and with the Pandemic thrown into the mix this has been very tricky to navigate!

You may have set backs but keep going, keep chipping away. If you really want something and work hard, you can achieve it!
