Q&A WITH LAURIE
An Original Artist's Print is an artwork printed by hand by an artist, using one or more of the following methods: Screen Printing, Lithography, Intaglio, Relief, and Monotype.
The artwork is produced as a Limited Edition, with each print signed and numbered by the artist. Although there are many of the same image in an edition, each numbered print is an individual part of the whole.
An Original Artist's Print is not to be confused with a reproduction, or a digital copy of an existing artwork, such as a Giclee Print.
Silk Screen Printing is a printing technique used by artists and printmakers to produce Original Artist's Prints.
The process involves using a silk screen, which is a metal frame with fine mesh stretched across it. An artist will create a stencil of their design and transfer this onto the screen. There are various methods of doing this, such as painting directly on to screen, using light sensitive photo emulsion or creating stencils from paper. Once the stencil is on screen, ink is applied and transferred from one side of the screen through the mesh and onto paper below, using a squeegee blade.
An edition of Original Artist's Prints is usually printed in one go, one colour at a time through the technique described above, so it can be a very time consuming process. The result is worth it though - layers of exquisite hand-mixed colour delicately printed on to high quality archival paper, coming together with sublime effect.

You'd be buying a piece of original art that you can enjoy for many years to come.
Original Artist's Prints are usually more affordable that buying an original painting or sculpture.
The colours of a screen print will not fade in time, as digital work may. (Good framing protects the print from the elements such as humidity and sunlight.)
You are supporting an artist and their livelihood!
